Feeling Quite Fourties

As I anxiously await spring this morning, I was taunted by foolish mother nature and her Sun, Rain, Hail, Sun, Rain, Wind weather pattern. I did manage to snap a few pictures of my outfit, in the fleeting sunlight of the morning.
The skirt is a lovely 40s Jantzen that was a gift from Solanah, and the blouse we scored out thrifting one day. The messy closet behind me is my Etsy Workspace filled to the brim with frocks, shoes, hats and whatnotery.
Today was Etsy picture day, thus my 40s style victory rolls. I was photographing some beautiful 40s dresses! I am so excited to list them this afternoon.
Well, I am off to cozy up with some warm tea, while I continue to wait out winter, and welcome spring. Warm weather please!

My Little Valentines.

Valentine's Day for me was celebrated by going to to the hardware store with the whole family, and then baking for today's playdate. I set out the table with all the ingredients and the kids helped me piece together a Clementine Loaf and some Clementine Salsa. They did ok, and the table was only marginally messy when we finished.
The man of the house did not entirely forget Valentine's day, as you can see by the lovely rhinestone number in the upper left corner. Oh how it sparkles in the day light!
Here is a full shot of my outfit du jour, which was given to me by Solanah the other night. Its a darling 1940s rayon suit, and I felt like a girl scout all day.

Well, I do hope you all had a good holiday weekend! I am off to finish preparing for today's playdate. Please send good thoughts, in hopes we all keep our sanity in a room full of toddlers.

The Stuck-Up Do

I was feeling very down and cross yesterday, after some incredibly hateful remarks were made on this blog. I am glad to see that day is over and here we are with a new post! What could a girl do to cheer herself up? A fancy hair-do of course.
Sometimes I find that the only thing that keeps me sane through certain days is having a really fun coif. So I pulled out my hot sticks and went to work to remedy my foul mood.
One. I pulled the hair up to give it lots of volume and curled (most) of them under.
two. It basically looked like this, I dont think it needs to be fancy or well wrapped to pull this style.
three. I waited about an hour and pulled the sticks out, and looked like a lunatic! fun!
four. I wrapped all the hair into little rolls all over my head. I basically made a ton of small victory rolls.
I wore this hair to a kid's birthday party a few weeks back, its a great style if you will be running around and active, as its up and out of the way, but still vintagely stylish.

Winter Furs

Shhh.. Don't tell PETA, but I am wearing my grandmother's fur cardigan. I love this sweater it is the warmest thing, and looks wonderful on a cold and bitter day. I do believe this is the only piece of fur I own. It was also one of the only things my grandma saved from her younger years, so it truly is a treasure.

I style my hair in some victory rolls with a faux fringe on the front. I really love doing this hair style, its so simple and easy when I have not pin-curled my hair the night before.

here is what the complete outfit looked like early on that morning, when I was working. I love that my job is listing vintage dresses on Etsy! I really should count my blessings a little more often.
Well it is off with me for now, time for preschool and then to pick up Solanah for a sewing date. What fun!

A Brief Sunny Day

We caught a small glimmer of blue sky and marginally warm weather today, albeit only for a few hours. I had some errands and thrifting to do, so of course I called up Solanah to make the trek with me. Afterward we returned to my little house to play with my children. The youngster was snoozing, so we popped into the back yard for a moment to soak up some light sun with Auggie B.
Oddly enough, half of what I wore today was given to me by Solanah. I think she looks so cute all snuggled up with my son. We had a lovely afternoon, but the grey and gloom has returned. I can not wait for spring to bloom, and cotton dresses with cardigans to be acceptable outdoor wear!
Hope you all had a lovely Monday.

Back in the Saddle

I am mostly healed from my tooth extractions, and ready to hit the keyboard again. I am sure you all missed me dreadfully over the weekend? Haha.

Today was an eventful day with my ever-favorite real-life blogger buddy, Solanah. We hit the thrift circuit and scored many great dresses for our Etsy Shops. Then we popped over to Hippo Hardware, to look at things I might need to restore my 1941 Bungalow. Hippo Hardware is an amazing salvage shop, full of wonderous old junk and delicious deco decor! Sinks, tubs, lights, door knobs, everything you need for your old house.
Of course while we were out and about we thought to stop and get some in action outfit pictures.
I am wearing my Grandma's fur cardigan, and the 1930s knit dress we thrifted. I pulled my hair into some victory rolls and faux bangs, as this has become my quick hair staple. I was complimented on my hair several times today, so thank you world for the ego boost!

If you are wondering what is going on in the bottom picture, I am standing under the giant hippo, of Hippo Harware. I sometimes get smushed by giant hippos, call it an occupational hazzard.
There you have my highly unusual outfit post du jour. One can't get to secure in one's surroundings, you never know when a giant hippo might appear!
