It's been a while since I shared my eating habits with all of you, so I thought I would do a quick post on our most recent breakfast out at the Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, OR. The Doug Fir is super cute and attached to the cheap and funky Jupiter Hotel, which I suggest you stay at if you travel through the northwest. Its delightfully retro and kitschy in all the best ways.
I wore my amazing leopard coat which was last years Christmas present that my mother outbid me on, listened to me lament losing, and then gave me at the very end of the night after all the gifts were open. I love this coat, and its insanely warm which is perfect for the consistently dreary weather we have here in Portland.
Breakfast was good, and the company was better. My nearest, dearest Cara Mia attended for the first time ever and I met a new friend from Instagram named Rita. I think that everyone should instill the breakfast army tradition into their lives. There is nothing more satisfying than gathering together once a week with some or all of your friends. Take my idea, do it, steal it and be awesome with your friends!

Broke Down Breakfast
Our wayward breakfast travels landed us in a sweet spot in north Portland called Beaterville this week. This quaint tin-shack style restaurant is covered in 50s memorabilia, but not like that "poodle skirt soda shop" crap, I'm talking real authentic mid century vibe. Formica tables, booths with tuck and roll seats, an a few novelty kitchen pieces from yesteryear. The walls are adorned in pictures of hot rods, rad rods, and half dead rods... Its a true vintage lovers breakfast dream. And the bright walls and amazing food ain't too bad either! (try the salmon omelet, thank me later.)

BREAKFAST ARMY: Hawaiian Style
The breakfast group gathered on my side of the river this week at a little "polynesian style" restaurant called Tommy O's this Sunday. This place is like living in its own identity crisis... a polynesian hawaiian spam eating breakfast joint... I ordered Huevos Rancheros. Regardless, it was delicious, and the company was wonderful. Team jessup came out, held baby olive and drank delicious bloody marys. A solid Sunday if you ask me!

Breakfast Army {Screen Door}
This week, the troops rallied at local hot spot Screen Door to enjoy some southern flair. Known for their chicken and waffles and extremely long wait times the Screen Door is a must on lists of places to try at least once in Portland. This Sunday, the wait times was as painfully long as possible, and to add insult to injury it was extremely cold and rainy. I was unable to get outfit pictures until we got home and could be housed safely on the front porch. The Cajun Bloody Mary however, was totally and completely worth the wait.
In the last picture I am scowling at an unknown noise coming from the side yard, because when in doubt one should always get angry at things you can't understand.
I am almost positive this whole outfit other than my tights was entirely thrifted! How cost effective of me!

Building a Breakfast Army
I don't usually find myself gracing the morning hours with my awake-ness, but Sunday morning breakfast traditions have changed that fact. I now rise early to prepare for a new edible adventure every Sunday. This week was not so new, as we returned again to the J & M Cafe. What was new to this outing was our company. It appears we are recruiting troops for the breakfast army, which this week included Toma's sister, her fella, Philip as always, and the entire Team Jessup. Next week I promise we will find somewhere different to eat so you can at least see some different scenery.

Traditional
Based on recent Sunday traditions coming into existence I find myself wondering if I should transition over to a Portland foodie blog format instead. (OH! I just found this one!) No! I wouldn't that to you all, but Monday morning posts seem to be recollections of my Sunday morning habitual breakfast with friends in the city. So, in new tradition I bring you Monday's recall of the previous day's deliciousness.
This week we waited on the street in the cold for nearly an hour to eat at GRAVY on Mississippi St. The cold wait was well worth the giant omelets and super fresh ingredients. As usual the team was in full attendance, Me... looking ever fashionable (ha!), Toma, our friend Philip, and lest we forget Baby Olive. Olive slept through breakfast entirely, so she can't submit a review on the kid-friendliness of the establishment, but other babies and kids smiled, waved, and even gave us a fist bump!
