Monday I went on a sewing date with blogging buddy Solanah. We each worked on separate projects this time, but both were finished to (almost)completion, nary a tear!
Yes, this occasion was much more festive than last time and the disastrous debacle dress.
I worked on a dress from Solanah's 1930s DuBarry Pattern, and she made a lovely pleated 50s frock.
The only fabric I had laying around suitable for this project was some hideous rose print fabric from the 80s, gifted to me from my mother in law. So, while not being my favorite dress I have made, I feel confident in its creation.
Solanah on the other hand, had the most decadent pink kona cotton I have ever seen made into a dress. and the final product was wonderful.
Amazingly we were able to remedy this mishap, and move onto sleeves. Look at the cute detail on the sleeves. Adorable! Make sleeves? Yes We Can!
We will end with my dress near completion when I asked Solanah where the hem should be. This dress was outrageously long. Oh the 30s?!

Oh how fun! I am currently living in a temporary rental home while building a new home, so I dont even know where my sewing machine is! But when I move back, I will have my own craft room and then look out! I wish I had a friend to play dress up with :(. But I am so happy for you two. Both dresses are awesome. Just out of curiosity, do you guys have an overlock machine to finish the edges or do you just leave them rough?
I leave them rough.
I do have an overlock serger.. but I rarely use it.
lol.
What an awesome day! Glad you two
had a great time!
Very cute! Looks like it turned out much better than the last one. :)
That sounds like such a fun day! I love dresses with a bit more length but some are too long even for me.

It seems you both had fun! And the dresses are very nice! .....much better than the other one =)
Did you finish the dresses in the same day? I mean, when I start a project normally it takes me about 3 days to end it because I just sew at nights "for relaxing" of my day, so, I guess if you finish a project I think you must be sewing like 3 or 4 hours?? ....or, well, I'm sure you have more experience than me and you can do it in much less time.
And it must be really nice to have a partner to work together, me, I'm the only "odd" who like both things, to sew and vintage fashion, I mean my friends think that.
I'm amazed how many women and girls like this!
Anyway, I enjoy a lot the blogs from both of you!
That was so fun, and I actually got somewhere with a project! The only thing left is finishing the sleeves on my dress, but having a partner is so motivating!
