One of the things about being the Mysterious Ex-Housewife that will take some getting used to, is being a broke ex-housewife. Moving out, I lost a lot of things I took for granted. One of those things I never questioned, was a dresser. Now that I have no chest of drawers for my bits and bobs, I had to resort to DIY improvisation. What better than utilizing all of my old luggage? I have now stacked all my non-hangable items in 3 suitcases on my bedroom floor. While it might not be conventional, it does work.
This is not the first time I have used luggage for random things about the house, I have a train case for sewing, I have another for all of my make-up.
I don't think its too unusual, and makes for a great conversation piece. But there it is, my broke solution to clothing storage.

But such a good looking solution.
I love the look of luggage as furniture.
and ha, you work in those shoes whenever you can!
I've been using this solution for a looong time, but with luggage much less attractive than yours! Being a bit penniless really forces you to get creative huh x
Great idea! And what beautiful suitcases you have, I would keep them on display all the time just to look at them.
I can see The Shoes helped arranging things and taking photos... *^v^*
It's a great solution! It just happpened to be I' have a similar in my bedroom - A big old suitcase whit all those nice hotel stickers on, lovely and an old hatbox embillished in a similar way and on top of it all a vintage make up travel bag... I'ts an art and a little bit of a sport to make things work when you are broke. I know I am an singel mum studieng social science and I have resently decieded to take my economic issues as an challenge and not to let it bring me down. And hey we are creative ladies so we can make miracles whitout any cash.Right!!??? Style is not equal to lots of money...
I think it's a great idea, and looks cute too. I love the cases - they're gorgeous. I'm a big fan of old suitcases ( yours look really well cared for :) )
I do the same with big hat boxes. Although my things never say organised, more likely to find them on the floor!
I have been doing this for a while - but with shamefully ugly suitcases. That have to be hidden under the bed. Nothing as pretty as these :)
Great solution and cute too. Going one step further- because you are a handy lady you can pull this off- make a suitcase table so you don't always have to bend down to the floor to get everything. It's pretty easy and there are a bunch of tutorials online. My fav is this one- http://larkandlola.blogspot.com/2009/06/suitcase-table-tutorial.html
Some people put plywood inside to strengthen the legs, but it really depends on the suitcase and what the shell is made from. If you go with flat cases you can still stack them like you do now.
That's a great idea, AND it's really cute
I think thats a nice way to both store things and show off nice, old suitcases ;)
Fantastic idea! I use old luggage to store some fabric and seam binding, but this looks much cuter than mine. :D

I use vintage suitcases for everything!! I noticed 'the Shoes' were supervising the photoshoot!
