The Unglamorous Life..

Sometimes when I re-read my own blog I get this weird feeling that people must think I am much more "glamorous" or "put together" than I really am. To set the record straight on my day to day life, I felt I should share a real life peek into the Mysterious Life. I do get up and attempt to do my hair and make-up, as well as throw on a cute dress. But the rest however, is not nearly as exciting and a bit more messy.

In general I spend my daylight hours reading kids books, molding clay people, and cutting paper with scissors (very exciting!) There are days where that is all I do. That and make bigger messes with the little people in my house.
I do clean, quite often really, but every time I turn around my two small children have made a mess. Their toys are often strewn about the house, as well as clothes, blankets, and bits of lunch.
I spend most of my days following behind them trying to put it all back in place.
I sometimes day dream of having a house cleaner, and a chef on staff. But until that dream comes true, this is the daily life of the metropolitan housewife. Me.

I want to be fair and honest to my readers, and not make myself out to be more than I am. I am just me, mom of two. wife of one. Twila Jean.

If you have been wanting to ask me something that has been on your mind about the real me, feel free. I will do a follow up blog in a few days with the answers. Thank you all for being my readers!

Kids can be messy, but they're kids for such a short time. Enjoy the clay people & paper days!

I love seeing posts like this...you still look fabulous and beautiful, even in the less than glamorous setting!

Quite a cute little post. I think all of us understand that living vintage is difficult, and isn't 24/7 by any means. I find myself in jeans a tshirts more often than I would like.

That first picture made me do a double take because it looks just like my sister. Funny how that can happen. Also, that bed and frame is super cute

You are always glamorous! Even in your Chuck Taylor's.

Oh boy, do I hear you on the personal cleaner and chef. I only have one little one and I have trouble keeping it all together. I don't bother half the time and just enjoy her and her destructive ways. :)

I can't imagine anyone has a truly glam life, well maybe Dita von Teese, I reckon she's pretty glam all the time but the rest of us have live that interrupts glamour or looking cute! I run a business and work from home, sometimes I realise it's midday & I'm still in PJs I'm not proud of it, but it's true!!

Ha ha! This post made me chuckle - the reason there are so few photos of myself in my blog so far is that I'm rarely glamorous on a day to day basis! While I love dressing up, my day job means dressing down. I can see from other people's comments that this is pretty much the reality for a lot of us vintage enthusiasts!

You're still lovely and glamorous in your own way. Glamour is what you make of it.

Thanks for showing us your other side. You seem to live a very fullfilling life. Nothing is unglamorous about it.

I love the vintage style and am glad you have the time to do the posts. I am sure it is a great escape from a hectic day.

Kids are great. Enjoy the mess and the stress because before you know it they are grown. I am in shock that mine is now 15 and has his permit LOL.

Thank you for sharing this. I think everyone's blog is a sort of escape, so I don't think you've faulted in any way. :) Still, I think the reminder is really really awesome of you.

Gosh, I don't have a question off the top of my mind but I'm looking forward to seeing the answers.

I know the feeling! only thing is that I am such a neat freak that my home is always clean other than in my sons' bedroom. They make a mess in there but they have to clean it back up every night before bed while we sing the clean up song. haha.

Hello again, Twila. I am curious as to your age? You seem resilient, and I know very well how difficult house-keeping and family-rearing can be. I, myself, am without children. I'm also in my late 30's. When I was in my 20's I felt invincible. Nevermind though, the suicide attempt that weakened my system forever. And now, in my late 30's, I feel as though I'm already 80.

I had no preconceptions about how you look when you aren't being photog'ed. I'm of the era where I get the whole social-networking thing, where peeps have to show pic after pic of their glamorous lives and such. But I am not that attached to a camera to documen my real life... I just don't have time, and frankly, I don't have the patience to worry about my hair and makeup and blah blah. :)

It wasn't too long ago that people had to pick up a phone or write a letter to be connected. But it's all so immediate now. I wonder if we, as a culture, have lost some of our social customs, like simple courtesies because we are so attached by an electronic medium? I dunno, just spit-ballin'.

I admire your perseverance and I only hope that you feel nothing but peace and love in your life. And know that real friends will not care one way or another how you look. Honest...

Best wishes,
Darlene

Twila, Love your blog. I'd love to hear more about how the house is coming along. I live in a cute 1950 apartment, and I just love hearing about how people are doing up their houses vintage style.

Oh I remember the days when my son was that little. I really miss him being small, changing diapers and cleaning up trails of goldfish crackers all over the floor. They grow up too fast, mine just turned nine last month! Savor every moment of it...At the end of the day we still manage to be dedicated super mom's, and somehow maintain a hint of glamour in our lives. At least you look fabulous doing it-tehehe...

XOXO~Syd

P.S- Your kiddo's are adorable!

Nobody is glamorous all the time, but with two kids you've done a great job! A lot of moms simply give up on themselves which I think is positively horrible. All women should feel beautiful, even with a kid on her hip. Congrats!!
