Breakfast with Ned

Sunday morning the army of breakfast eaters set out to try a new location in portland. This week we chose Ned Ludd on MLK. I am by no means a critic, or hold any ground in the breakfast review world, but it still saddens me to share my first lack lustre Breakfast Army experience.
I want to start of with the servers were so lovely! Very attentive service with a friendly smile. The decor of this place was kind of like an old world hunting lodge, with stacks of wood and huge chandeliers covered in cobwebs... I am super into that look! (Seriously, I am.)
The menu is where our trip takes a screeching halt. After I order a bloody mary served my favorite way, in a mason jar, I peruse the most pretentious "american craft kitchen" menu I have ever seen. I love food, I love fusion foods, I love foods that don't even make a lot of sense, but when we have to google your menu listings, and there are no breakfast items on the breakfast menu... we have problems. The closest thing to breakfast was an over-easy egg on green veggies with smoked trout, which our Philip ordered, it was delicious. The rest of us stared longingly at the highly limited menu, and ended up ordering Yogurt with Granola, A muffin, and Toma ordered... Nothing. If you have ever seen an episode of Portlandia, I feel like this type of place would be featured.
For a place with such a lovely rustic appearance I wish the food would have been a little more "down to earth" or at least somewhere in this star system. We were offered desert (after breakfast?) which we turned down and parted ways. I got home and made eggs and toast before I walked out the door to work. More importantly, lets discuss outfit details! I bought this dress to sell, but found it fit me like a glove and dons a Nicholas Ungar labels in its seams so into my closet it goes. For a little while at least. I am a huge fan of the late 50s early 60s Nicholas Ungar silhouettes. Every single piece I have found to be extremely flattering.

From a glance at what I could see on that menu, I'm rather confused as to why an "American craft kitchen" spells salad 'auf Deutsch' and half their other items are spelt in foreign languages when they are just as easily written the "American" way. I am rather easily intimidated by menus like that myself :( I'm sorry it wasn't a very good experience for you. Hopefully next week goes better!

Haha, I agree with Rueby..."salat" and "haus" cornichons (whatever they are)...what country are we in, here? France, Germany, Italy? Or...is it the *International* House of No Pancakes?
Sorry you had a less-than-great time, but at least you looked fabulous!!!

Sorry to hear that your breakfast wasn't a hit... but I bet your dress was!! You're looking smoking hot for breakfast! I'm usually so hungry when we go out for breakfast that I'll throw on just about any pair of jeans an top I can find.

Smoked trout is soooo good. Your hair looks really lovely this way with your dress (which is awesome in itself). I hope you and your beautiful family have been doing well. <3

I'd have had to google all those items also and I would have ordered nothing. You look fantastic! Beautiful dress!

Ah too bad you guys didn't like it. Next time ask the nice servers about the menu! At places like that servers actually know how stuff is prepared and can tell you a lot about the food!

Don't be afraid to ask what it would cost to whip up a omelet and hash browns. Maybe they would get the hint, haha

Oh crap... I have been known to walk right out of restaurants if there isn't anything I can understand on the menu. Simple girl with simple tastes over here. Then I feel like a twit because I didn't check ahead. But really from this place you wouldn't expect such lacking breakfast options??? Weird.
