If we remember correct, it would appear all festivities for my 25th birthday were canceled. Much to my surprise, Toma had other ideas entirely. Upon coming home from a doctors appointment, I found him and the children awaiting a drive to the Oregon Coast.
We spent the day and night in Seaside, OR but ate delicious food in Astoria. For those unaware, Astoria is my favorite town in the entire world (not that I have explored the entire world.. I am a little bias.) So we returned in the early morning to devour the most spectacular brekkie ever at Astoria Coffee House, of which I highly recommend flying from where ever you are to experience.
We played in the sand, saw aquatic animals in captivity, slept in a roadside motel, and ate like kings. It was a pretty good birthday after all.
On the subject of the above octopus, does anyone know for a fact if it lives in its tiny captive water cage at all times? It looked quite unhappy and claustrophobic in that prison. I kind of want to contact the Seaside aquarium to discuss further, not that I think it would do much good.

Astoria is probably my favorite city on North America :) We used to go there for summer vacations and to Long Beach, WA. as well.
I know at the Seattle Aquarium they capture the Giant Pacific Octopus and only keep them for about 2 months before they release it and capture a new one. The only other place I've seen one captive was in Port Angeles, WA and they also released theirs after 2 months and captured another one.
Happy Birthday! I love the beach too. Glad you weren't allowed to completely cancel your birthday.
What a wonderful birthday surprise! It sounds like a lovely time. Seattle is one of my favorite places, I wish I lived there.
xo,

Go Toma! Glad you got some birthday celebratng done!
apparently octopi are pretty smart and they get into all sorts of mischief when they aren't kept in entertaining enough surroundings. by the way, i just love that dress you're wearing in the photo! and happy birthday... I am turning 25 this week too :)
It's so interesting to learn about things regarding animals. I'm glad you had such a nice weekend.
Seaside and Astoria and pretty much the Oregon Coast are my favorite places to visit. What a great way to celebrate your birthday!
I don't know about the seaside aquarium, but I was at the Seattle aquarium and the night before I was there the octopus had climbed out of it's huge cage!! They had found it on the floor in the morning half dead. I was there again a month later and it was back alive and healthy! They were planning it's release.
