Get Hitched Vintagely

Wow! So what started out as a blog that would feature a 1950s wedding dress I am selling, that I also happened to model in, has molded itself into a blog about wearing a vintage wedding dress.. to of all things, your wedding. In producing this I lost several hours doing "research" a.k.a. oogling other brides via Offbeatbride.com and Rocknrollbride.com to bring you some vintage formal frockery inspiration. (fun tidbit, long time blog readers might know.. I am featured on both sites for two different reasons... *cough* attention wh*re *cough*)

Back to the beginning now... I got this amazing dress for my shop, that was so amazing, that Toma wanted to photograph it for fun and art, or whatever. We layered curtains and I nearly fell over a few times, but we got some good shots. I make a pretty good lookin' spooky bride if I do say so myself...

For some reason I like to ruin the illusions of photoshoots and share all the movie magic. Mostly I just like to show how pretty we can make stuff look with the ghetto-living-room-studio set-up we were working with on this shoot. So, here is a small behind the scene video of our studio/living room. Note the awesome Victorian Settee in the background! I love that thing.
(also could I have gotten a worse screen cap of this video? I look horrendous!)

While writing this, I ended up on a tangent of vintage inspired weddings and fantastic brides with stupendous style. So I thought I would share a few ladies, and their vintage gowns on the day of their vow exchange.

But then... Oh then... When I did finally get to uploading this whole blog today, I thought I was missing something major... Links to more dresses. I strongly encourage the bride to be to look into vintage for her wedding day needs. It's much more cost effective, and green friendly, and much more unique than pulling a gown off the rack. So, on that note here are a few favorites on Etsy right now...
1. A Satin 1940s gown from FabGabs Vintage
2. A White lacey 1940s gown from The Trousseau
3. A strapless 1950s Tulle gown from Vintage Vortex
4. A cute and very Simple 1950s dress from Unionmadebride

And if you are anything like me and think that white doesn't necessarily have to be synonymous with wedding there are several colorful options like...
5. A gorgeous Black and White 50s frock from Jolie Vintage Shop (my personal favorite)
6. A pink 1950s Satin party dress from NiftyGypsyVintage
7. A cute Teal and White 1950s Dress from PlanetClaireVintage

Yes in case you are wondering, this post took me way more time than it should have. So please share and comment. Seriously, not joking.. way too long.

I've been looking for a suitable vintage dress for my simple little JP wedding in June so these links are right up my alley. Though I'm sure they will be outta my price range. :( Maybe I shouldn't even look!

I still think Solanah has the best vintage wedding dress and story behind it ever.

These were fabulous! I love the strapless tiered lace 50's dress and Solanah's the most. I especially love what she paid for it!

well, for what it is worth I have a blog too and I know the kind of effort and energy it takes, so this is all greatly appreciated. Your smile in that video is beautiful.. it reminds me of someone, but I cannot figure out who.. so I will go to sleep and in the middle of the night it will probably dawn on me LOL.. your eyes just lit up with that smile. Again, thanks for sharing the pix.. I always love to see them. Links are cool too!

That's a gorgeous dress Twila Jean. You look amazing in it. And I love that you put the video up too. I love hearing what people sound like-putting a voice to the face (if that makes sense, lol). You are so sweet- a real character and lots of fun! Thanks for such an awesome post :)

Lovely photos! I spend far too much of my time of Offbeat bride already. I seem to be a sucker for pretty ladies in amazing dresses. Also Lucy's dress is so beautiful and glamourous. Thanks for sharing.

Such great photos! Don't forget all the amazing vintage patterns for wedding dresses - I made my own dress from a 50s McCall's pattern, and even hiring a seamstress to make one is still probably going to be less than an actual new dress.

Thy're all stunning! Although it's bad to encourage me in this kind of thinking - i've been with my other half for 5 years now and if i so much as look at anything wedding related he gets a cold sweat and passes out! (well not literally but y'know what I mean!)

Never hurts to be prepared with beautiful ideas like these though ;)

I about keeled over when I saw you in the dress. That was my mother's wedding dress from 1957! (Well...not THE SAME dress...hers is still in her apartment). I always LOVED her dress and wanted to wear it when I got married 25 years ago, but alas, my mother was very petite and only weighed 95 pounds when my parents got married and there wasn't any way of altering it to fit my much taller and bigger boned body (thanks, Dad, for your DNA!)

Do women still follow the tradition of wearing their mother's wedding gowns?

I know the feeling of getting lost in research - you sit down to write a blog, suddenly it's four hours later and you haven't done any work!
