We are embarking on a new voyage in our lives, the Metropolitan Family is buying a house! This is a first for us, so we are giddy, nervous, excited, and anxious! Of course, in looking for a home we are hunting for the perfect old house. I couldn't imagine living in a newer home, it is just not my cup of tea. We are hoping we get a nice old farm house in downtown.
My gears are turning as far as design, color schemes, and fun! Tearing up carpet, refinishing hardwoods, painting kitchens. I am excited. And for inspiration I am reading up on the Retro Renovation Blog. RR is chuck full of eye candy and resources. They know it all, vintage, salvage, and reproduction! And of course, they are also out to Save the Pink Bathrooms.
Well, I really just wanted to share that little slice of blog heaven with you. I am off to go about planning a 1940s kitchen in my dream world.

What I wouldn't give to own my own house! Good luck with finding the perfect home. Although I love my house (she is like an eccentric old lady, built in the 1920's and has been everything from a peep show brothel to a designer shop... hard to imagine but the place is really cute despite some of its history!) but living with flatmates and having to pay rent is certainly a bit of a drag sometimes!
Yay I am so happy for you. Moving is such a pain but unpacking is like x mas.
Happy hunting!

Yay, we can be new house buddies! You should come down and see my 1903 farmhouse sometime!
Yeah Don! I want to come see it. The one we are offering on is not that old, but its big and cool adn from the 40s. I hope we get it!
Congratulations! I'm so glad you like my blog, I'm happy to help you out in any way I can! :)
wow, i hope you get it! we hope to buy a craftsman in the next few years ourselves. right now we live in (the basement under) a truly amazing one.
i will keep my fingers crossed!
Pam- I love your blog! so delightful!
Julie - we wanted an old chraftsman bad, but they are exceptionally expensive, even on this side of the river. we are looking at a kind of ugly 40s farm house that we hope to update :)
Congrats on the soon to be new home!!! I can't wait to see what you do with it. And I love the retrorenovation blog, so many great ideas on there!!

Best time ever to buy a house! Good Luck!!!
Ugh I want an old house with hardwood floors and a claw foot tub...
oh man, so jealous. my potatoes-for-brains landlord pocket dialed me three times today alone. ugh. all i can do is watch HGTV and dream...
How exciting!
It is so easy to fall in love with the little details that old houses have. But.... don't forget to be realistic about the big stuff. My Victorian with to-die-for tile work is fantastic, the bill for a new roof and rebuild the corner of the hose, not so romantic!
Best of luck in your search. I can't wait to read more.
Nicole
That site is so great. I've been looking for something like this for ages. Thanks for the tip!
